So Irelynn arrived on October 18th, a whooping 8 days late, here is the birth story!
So it all started Sunday morning at 4:20 when my water broke. That was pretty surreal and I was not expecting it to happen. Got up, paged my midwife so she could come and start my antibiotics. Contractions were there, but not too strong. So after my first round of meds she went home. I showered and then Ky got up and we walked him over to my moms. Came home, rested till 11:40 when my midwife came back for round 2 of meds. She checked me and I was 3cm. After the meds she told us to try and eat and then get some rest. Well I ate, but it didn't agree with me (yet again puking through labour lol), the contractions started to pick up so I tried a shower. I laid down but they just kept getting stronger and closer. So we paged Carolyn and she said we could meet her at Women's just to have me triaged and then head to St B. Well once we were there it was decided we weren't going to leave, I was too uncomfortable, plus they had lots of room's available (St B was pretty much full)
So at 3:30 we got our LDRP room and my midwife checked me again. I was 3-4cm. I felt so discouraged to be making progress so slowly yet contracting so hard. I had to do my strip of monitoring baby so I was stuck in bed for a while (an hour cause my pulse kept being the one getting picked up cause its so high) and thats when the contractions really picked up to being a minute apart. Carolyn decided gas would be a good option for me as I was so tired and in so much pain. A 5 they checked me and I was 5-6cm and I figured it would still be a long time till pushing so they gave me morphine (which they did into my arm instead of doing an IV and it just pooled under my skin and had no effect) I started coupling (contractions one on top of another). My mom got there at 6:42 and I decided to try and do some standing. I lasted all of 15 minutes before I really needed to push. I got back into bed, was checked, was at 9.5cm and was told I could push when I was ready. I started pushing at 7:05 and at 7:15 she was out. It was insane how quick the pushing was, but OMG did it hurt. I felt her start to crown and stopped pushing and let my body do its thing, her head came out and I gave a small push for her body. What relief when they are finally out lol She was able to come right onto my chest which was awesome. She cried great and Todd started to say the story he had read to her while she was in my belly and she instantly stopped crying, it was amazing. Things went so fast once I was at the hospital and I felt so great after birth. Late her first night I started to get some pretty intense after pains and they lasted for a few days. Irelynn is an amazing baby, she nursed for 4hrs before midnight her first night and slept pretty much the whole night. She loves to suck so we offered a soother and she loves it. Its so surreal to have her. Ky totally loves her and is so gentle. He was so thrilled to come see her at the hospital. I had a pretty good experience at Women's and didn't really care about such a huge change in our plans.
So thats her story of coming into the world.
Oh and not tearing or stitches, woohoo I am so happy for that!
So now jump forward almost 3 months, yes I know bad mom for not getting on here sooner. Its just so busy these days. Her first halloween was great. We went and visited all our family, had to make an emergency stop to get diapers because she pooped and we were out in the diaper bag, then she peed all over her halloween outfit. Her first Christmas was great, she slept through most of it!
She is such an amazing baby, so different then Ky. She sleeps a lot more then he did and is so strong. When she is awake she is really taking everything in and then goes to sleep to absorb it all. We say she is our old soul, Ky was totally a new soul. Its neat to see how different your kids can be. She looks a lot like Ky yet looks so much more like Todd then Ky did. She also often resembles me as a babe but more and more she is looking like her daddy!
On our first day home Todd was supposed to return to work but when he got up I was sick, so he stayed home and never went back. We decided that parental leave was the best option for our family and are both loving having him home. Its made the adjustment to two kids so much easier and so much more enjoyable. I think it has also made it a lot easier for Kyler too. He still gets lots of attention. We are so lucky that he has taken to being a big brother so well. He loves his little sister so much and is so caring with her. Its wonderful to watch him with her.
So now we are a family of four, we feel so blessed. Our children are so amazing and we just love spending everyday watching them grow. We will try our best to keep this blog up to date! I have included some recent pics!
